Drew Graduate Brings Environmental Film Festival to New York City
Ken Gomez graduated from Drew in 1978 with a major in political science. He went on to obtain a law degree from the University of Denver and to work in the mountains near Aspen as a deputy district attorney. More recently Ken pursued his love of adventure travel as evidenced by his climbs of Mt.Kilimanjaro, Mt. Rainier (twice), and Mt. Auyantepui in Venezuela, not to mention high altitude trekking in both the Cordillera Blanca in Peru and in Eucador.

Now Ken, who practices law in Manhattan, has combined his Colorado experience with his love of adventure by hosting the debut appearance in New York City of Telluride's Mountainfilm on Tour (view the event information).

Mountainfilm in Telluride, Colorado, is like no other film festival --- no other event --- in the world. Steeped in the traditions of mountaineering and adventuring, Mountainfilm in Telluride has been, for the last twenty-two years, an international rendezvous of legendary mountaineers, environmental activists, cutting edge filmmakers, authors, scientists and artists. Yet despite its international participation and distinguished guest list, it remains an event of decidedly homespun hospitality.

Mountainfilm on Tour is culled from Festival favorites of the last several years ... brilliant animations, compelling documentary and complex adventures ... are but a part of a Mountainfilm on Tour evening.

The films will be presented by Rick Silverman, Director of the Mountainfilm Festival. Rick's passion for filmmaking, storytelling, landscape and wildness, in image and word, bring these internationally acclaimed pieces into a richly textured tapestry. The films shown at Mountainfilm on Tour tell us something about the world we live in ... and the one we'd like to live in.

Each of the films at Mountainfilm on Tour has an important message to tell -- be it about biodiversity in the depths of the Amazonian rainforest, an octogenarian's courage on the slopes of a high peak in Antarctica, or the community struggles at a garden in Manhattan.
