International Students
CriteriaThe Selection Committee seeks to identify the applicants most likely to succeed in Drew's academic curriculum and to contribute to the life of the campus. A review of the secondary school record -- the number of college-preparatory courses taken, the level of these courses, and performance in them -- is the most important part of the academic evaluation of candidates. In addition, applicants seeking a visa must demonstrate their ability to pay the majority of their cost of attendance. Please read the International Student Financial Statement in the International Student Application Booklet for details. Standardized test scores or a graded paper, personal essays, and school references are also important. Extracurricular achievements, personal qualities, and special talents are also considered in the selection process. Secondary School RecordSecondary school preparation should consist of at least four units of English, three units of college preparatory mathematics, two units of foreign language, two years of history/social studies, and two years of laboratory science, plus three additional units of academic course work, totaling 16 units. Personal StatementStudents may choose to submit one of the essays specified in the Drew application or the Common Application. For non native English speakers, it is of particular importance to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English. Test scoresApplicants must submit either official standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) or a graded paper from a high school class. In addition, students whose first language or whose language of instruction in high school is other than English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Nearly all admitted international students score 230 or higher on the TOEFL exam. Required RecommendationsA counselor recommendation is required to complete an application. Drew recognizes that not all schools outside of the United States have such a counselor. In this case, letters of recommendation will be accepted from a school director, principal, or headmaster. InterviewsApplicants to the Bachelor of Arts program are encouraged to have a campus interview. However, Drew recognizes this may not be possible and it is not a requirement. |
