Introducing iChain

When accessing secure Drew University web sites, such as Webfiles, Webaccess, Blackboard, CampusWeb, and the Technology Support Portal, you will see a login form as depicted below, indicating that the site is protected by the iChain service.

uLogin

iChain is Drew's secure web single-sign-on (SSO) system, and a replacement for our previous Session Manager services. You may log into any iChain protected service by using your uLogin ID and password. All current students, faculty, and staff are entitled to a uLogin account. If you do not have a uLogin account, please call or stop by the CNS Helpdesk (basement of Brother's College) to make arrangements.

iChain Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to enter my password every time I access an iChain protected web page?

No. iChain is a single-sign-on system. Once you have logged into any iChain protected site, you may access other iChain protected sites without retyping your password. For instance, if you browse to webfiles.drew.edu and then browse to webmail.drew.edu without logging out, you will be connected to Webmail without being asked for your uLogin ID and password a second time. If you wish to completely log out of the iChain system, you may click the Logout link from any iChain protected site, or simply exit out of your web browser.

  • Will I be automatically logged out of iChain if I leave my computer idle?

Yes. Their is presently a 1 hour time-out on iChain sessions. Please note that activity that does not actually refresh a web-page, such as composing a long email message or filling out a large web form does not constitute activity so far as a web server is concerned, and it is possible that your session will time-out if this takes more than 1 hour. To avoid losing work due to a session timeout, we recommend that you copy long messages to the clipboard before clicking Submit, or keep a second browser window open to the same site and refresh it periodically while filling out your form or composing your message.

  • How do I explicitly log out of my iChain session?

iChain protected web-sites should have a Logout button or link. This link will log you out of all iChain sites that you currently have open. If you do not see a Logout link, or have browsed away from an iChain protected site, you may still explicitly end your iChain session by browsing to ichain.drew.edu and clicking the Logout button on that page.

  • What if I don't want iChain to save my uLogin ID on the computer I am using?

The iChain log in page automatically sets a cookie with your uLogin ID, so that the login form will automatically have your uLogin ID filled in on subsequent visits to the site. If you wish to delete this cookie, check the box "Remove Personalization" on the logout form when you log out of your iChain session.

  • Do I need cookies enabled to use iChain protected sites? JavaScript?

Yes. Cookies and JavaScript must both be enabled to use iChain sites.

  • Can I change my uLogin password using the iChain system?

Yes. If your password has expired, you will be prompted to change it when logging into any iChain protected site. To change your password at any time, simply visit password.drew.edu and click the Change uLogin Password button.

  • Why do I get security certificate warning messages when browsing iChain protected sites? How can I stop them?

Drew's internal secure web sites use certificates signed by a Drew-specific Certificate Authority which is not implicitly trusted by browsers. You can safely ignore the warnings, or if you wish to eliminate them, you may install the Drew CA certificate into your browser. Click here for instructions and more information on the certificate issue.
