Possible network interruptions on Sunday, June 27th

Starting on Sunday morning by 9am, various network services and systems may be unavailable due to the campus electrical test announced by Facilities.

Any building listed in the facilities announcement (the list is included below) will not have wired or wireless networking. In addition to the buildings on the list, Smith House will lose its network connection once the Brothers College data center is shut down.

If the test takes its full scheduled time, any system located in Brothers College will have to be shut down. This includes the campus web servers, the proxy server, the license metering server, our SQL Database server, and the primary campus DNS server for looking up internet addresses. Supportworks and AdAstra would not be available. The metering server would prevent a number of applications, including SPSS, Mathmatica, Dreamweaver (for faculty and staff) from running until power and services are restored later in the day.

If things go as planned, email (including WebAccess) should be available.

If for some reason power to the Learning Center data center is interrupted, we would lose the rest of our campus services, including the actual Internet Connection, the e-mail server, the library catalog, the Novell cluster and Blackboard. We do not expect this to occur.

All services should be available shortly after power is restored.

As a reminder, the buildings that are part of the scheduled power shutdown are:

  • The Learning Center
  • Rose Memorial Library
  • Mead Hall
  • Hall of Science
  • Brothers College
  • Hannan House
  • Lewis House
  • Sitterly House
  • Faulkner House
  • Davies House
