Network downtime, Tuesday June 28th, 5:30pm to 6pm
Computing and Network Services is upgrading one of the central network switches on Tuesday evening starting at 5:30pm. We anticipate needing a half hour to complete the upgrade. Due to the location of this switch on our network, this will be far more disruptive than the same work performed in Brothers College last semester.
During that half hour, on-campus and off-campus users will be unable to access almost all network-based services -- file, print, email, most web applications, etc. On-campus users will be unable to reach the Internet.
We are replacing the Supervisor module (the "brains" of the unit) with a new, higher performing module and the new power and cooling hardware to support it. In addition, we're adding another component to allow us to attach more servers to this core switch and to improve network performance at the same time. We are planning to move the current server cabling to use the new hardware as well, which will avoid the need to disrupt individual services later.
Thank you for your patience.
