New Windows updates via Patchlink

Microsoft has released a series of security updates and bugfixes for Windows, and we have received these updates from Patchlink, the update service we subscribe to through Novell. Starting on Thursday, 10/13 and continuing for a few days, we will be distributing these updates to University-owned computers. We also plan to distribute recent updates to Microsoft Office XP and Microsoft Office 2003.

You will be given the option of deferring any required reboots so that you have a chance to save work or wait until it's a bit more convenient.

While it may be disruptive, we have to distribute these updates quickly. In recent months, the time between the disclosure of a problem and the release of a malicious program exploiting that problem has shrunk from weeks to a matter of days.
