New Mobile Solution for GroupWise Available
Wireless email and calendar now available for all students, faulty, and staff

Computing and Network Services is pleased to announce the availability of Novell's GroupWise Mobile Server at Drew. Mobile Server provides for wireless email, calendar, and contact synchronization on a variety of PDAs and smart phones. Mobile Server can even work with a basic cell phone's text messaging capability to provide updates on your GroupWise calendar and alerts when important email messages arrive in your GroupWise mailbox.

GroupWise Mobile Server compliments our existing BlackBerry solution for wireless email. While BlackBerry will remain the preferred, fully supported, solution for mobile University business. GroupWise Mobile Server extends the reach of our previous mobile offerings to include a variety of other cell phones and PDAs--such as those made by Palm, Samsung, Nokia, and others. Mobile Server is also our first wireless email and calendar offering available for students.

In addition to wireless devices such as smart phones, the Mobile Server also supports basic cradle synchronization of stand-alone Palm and Windows Mobile/Pocket PC based PDAs.

We are pleased to offer this service free of charge to all students, faculty, and staff who own a compatible device (and wireless plan if applicable). Even if you don't own a smart phone or PDA, standard cell phone users can still take advantage of the text messaging features of this service!

Where can I go for help?

With this new service, we are introducing a new "community support" model. Because of the huge variety of devices, wireless carriers, and configurations that may be in use, CNS will not be able to offer standard Helpdesk support for this service. Instead, we encourage you to post your questions to the Technology Discussion Forum within the Drew Community Forums. We hope that users will also share tips and tricks and success stories using the service with various devices and cellular carriers. CNS full-time and student staff also monitor the technology discussion forums and will try to answer questions that are posted there.
