intensive arabic language and culture 2007

Drew University is pleased to offer an eight-week summer program providing intensive study in Arabic language and culture from the beginner through the intermediate level. During the first half of the course, students learn the Arabic script, the basic rules of Arabic grammar, appropriate vocabulary, as well as reading, oral, and aural skills commensurate with the elementary level. The second part of the class explores advanced structures of grammar, syntax, and expression.

Each Friday, students will participate in cultural activities in New York City or New Jersey related to the Arabic language. The activities will include tours of immigrant neighborhoods, visits to art exhibitions and mosques, film screenings, musical performances, Arabic food tasting, and other events to be announced.

This 12 credit program is open to advanced high school students, undergraduates, graduate students, working professionals, and adult learners. Students who have completed beginner-level Arabic studies are welcome to join at the mid-point of the program.
