November 18, 2010: Mark Massaro, NJGSS 2009, is attending the University of Richmond as an Oldham Scholar. This is Richmond's highest award. The University awards this scholarship to "those incoming students who exemplify the highest scholarship, personal integrity and potential for leadership." It includes full tuition, room and board for all four years of undergraduate study, priority course registration and housing, and an additional stipend for undergraduate research.

November 18, 2010: Catherine Elorette, NJGSS 2009, is attending St. Joseph's University, having received a full scholarship for women in science.

December 21, 2009: Dr. Darshak Sanghavi, NJGSS 1987, is the chief of pediatric cardiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is the author of "A Map of the Child: A Pediatrician's Tour of the Body." Dr. Sanghavi's article "The Last Decision", appeared in the New York Times Magazine on December 21, 2009.

May 2009: Mark Vander Schaaf, NJGSS 2008, has been named a Presidential Scholar. Mark is one of 141 outstanding American high school seniors that have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and service at school and in their community. The Presidential Scholars will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington, D.C. from June 20 - 24. Mark will attend Rice University in Houston, Texas where he plans on studying and conducting research in Materials Science and Engineering as well as joining the Ultimate Frisbee and Sailing teams.

December 2008: Jesse Collins, NJGSS 2001, has been awarded an NSF IGERT (Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship) fellowship in Biomechanics to cover tuition and stipend for a year of his PhD studies in Applied Physics at Harvard University. Fall, 2008: Andrew Massaro, NJGSS 2006, has been named a Science Scholar at the University of Richmond. This designation is given to the top science/math applicants. It comes with a full-tuition scholarship plus priority housing, priority registration, a $3000 grant to do research, and immediate recognition in all of the science departments. Andrew credits his Governor's School experience with playing a role in his selection for this award. During his interview, Andrew discussed his NJGSS team project research and his interviewers said it was the most impressive project they had heard about!

October 30, 2008: Dr. Andrew Einstein, NJGSS 1985, a Columbia University Cardiologist, has received the Katz Young Investigator prize for cardiovascular research. Dr. Einstein is studying computed tomography angiogram (CTA), a new, non-invasive imaging technique used to assess levels of calcium and fatty deposits in the coronary arteries. Read about it here.

May, 2008: Joshua Cook, NJGSS 2003, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Biology. He was awarded the
Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship for students planning a career in
science or technology. He is now a Gates Cambridge Scholar working
toward his M.Phil. in clinical biochemistry at the University of
Cambridge.
