Our Online Registration System is now running!


The HSP is now receiving online applications.  As a result of our efforts to keep our program up-to-date, we are now running an online application system from our website. We hope the online registration will make the application process faster, easier and more efficient. In order to apply for the HSP 2012, please go directly to our website (http://hispanicsummerprogram.org), and start the process by simply clicking “Apply Online” on the main page.

Leadership News

The HSP is proudly celebrating that our current Director, Dr. Otto Maduro, just began his term as President of the AAR (American Academy of Religion). Dr. Maduro is the first President of Hispanic origin in the 100+ years of history of the AAR. Dr. Maduro began his presidency as of November 20, 2011, and will end it with his Presidential Address at the 2012 AAR Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, Nov. 16-20.

 

 

 

We are also excited to announce that Dr. Daisy Machado (Dean of Academic Affairs at Union Theological Seminary, NY) was recently appointed as Director-Elect of the HSP. Dr. Machado has previously served the HSP as the Chair of the Executive Committee (2002-2006). Dr. Machado will begin her 3-year term as the new Director in October, 2012

luthfac_jay_alanis_feb09.jpgDr. Javier Alanis (HSP Faculty ‘04) has been named the Director of the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest (LSPS), where he has served as the Interim Director since 2009. LSPS is a joint graduate theological program established in 1975 by Wartburg Theological Seminary and Lutheran Theological Seminary at Chicago.

 

delgado.jpgDr. Teresa Delgado (HSP Faculty ’10), Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Director of Peace and Justice Studies at Iona College, has received the Louisville Institute’s First Book Grant Program for Minority Scholars. Dr. Delgado is currently working on her book titled Loving Sex Latina/mente: Envisioning a Relevant Catholic Sexual Ethic.

 

Irizarry.jpgDr. Jose Irizarry (HSP Faculty ’02) has been appointed as the Director of Cambridge College, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has previously served as the Academic Dean and held the Limardo Chair in Practical Theology at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico.

Dr. Juan Francisco Martinez (HSP Faculty ’05) was appointed as the Associate Provost for Diversity and International Programs at Fuller Theological Seminary. Dr. Martinez has served at Fuller since 2001 as its Director, and, most recently, as Associate Dean of the Center for the Study of Hispanic Church and Community.

Dr. Hugo Magallanes (HSP Faculty ’03 & Chair, HSP Executive Committee), Associate Professor of Christianity and Cultures at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, was appointed as the new director of the Center for the Study of Latino/a Christianity and Religions at Perkins.

Dr. Loida Martell-Otero (HSP Faculty ’10) was promoted to the rank of Full Professor of Constructive Theology at Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University.

 

Pineda-Madrid.jpgDr. Nancy Pineda-Madrid (HSP Faculty ’98), Assistant Professor of Theology and U.S. Latino/a Ministry at Boston College, has recently published Suffering and Salvation in Ciudad Juárez (Fortress, 2011). In this book, Dr. Pineda-Madrid examines the meaning of salvation and the role of community within the situation of feminicide.
