Drew Grad Wins Soros Fellowship

Ulcca Joshi Hansen C'97 is among thirty 2005 Soros New American Fellows. She will receive a stipend of up to $20,000, plus half tuition for up to two years of graduate study at any institution in the U.S.

Hansen is currently a DPhil candidate at Oxford University, where she is a Marshall Scholar. Hansen, who majored in philosophy and German, graduated summa cum laude from Drew in 1997. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and awarded a Harry S. Truman Scholarship.

Hansen was born in Newark, NJ. to parents who emigrated from Tanzania and became citizens in 1980. The Drew grad will attend law school and hopes for a career in advocacy and school reform.
