Students Win Goldwater Science Scholarships

Drew students Holly Kuzmiak and Thomas Zielinski have been awarded scholarships for 2003-2004 by the Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

The 300 Goldwater scholarship winners were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,093 students who were nominated by college faculties throughout the nation.

Kuzmiak’s project proposal for the Goldwater award was titled "Development of the DAN Assay and a Culture Method for Ciliated Tracheal Cells". She is a biochemistry major.

Zielinski, a physics/computer sciences major, will work on a project titled The Electro-Optic Effect in Poled Polymer Films.

The Goldwater scholarship program was designed to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. The award pays up to $7,500 per year.
