Professional Bio: Professor Wice has been at Drew since 1978. He specializes in public law, criminal justice, and urban politics. He received his BA from Bucknell University in 1964 and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1972. Prior to coming to Drew, he taught 5 years at Washington and Jefferson College and had been a Visiting Scholar at the U.S. Justice Department for two years (1976-78). He has served as Drew's Pre-law advisor since 1978. In 1988 he was awarded the Drew University Presidential Citation for Distinguished Scholarship and Teaching. In 1989, Professor Wice received the Excellence in Teaching Award given by the New Jersey Department of Higher Education. In April of 2001, Professor Wice was selected to be the Distinguished Speaker at the Drexel Universtiy Honors College. Paul is the author of nine books on the American legal system and over 40 articles and monographs. His most recent works are Ruben "Hurricane" Carter and the American Justice System, Capital City Roller Coaster: Race Relations in the Nation's Capital 1950-1980, and Gideon v. Wainwright and the Right to Counsel. His articles have appeared in such journals as The Criminal Law Bulletin, Society, Justice System Journal, and Washington History. Professor Wice also has two entries in the Encylopedia of Criminal Justice that is to be published in 2002. He has been a scholar in Residence at the New Jersey Supreme Court and a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of Law and Society at the University of California, Berkeley. He has been a consultant to N.J. Judicial System, Georgetown University Institute of Criminal Law and procedure, American Bar Association, the National Institute of Justice, US Dept. of Justice, Washington, DC, and the Institute for the Study of Law and Society.
