Honduras Project People Caring about People

In March 1995, two dozen intrepid Drew students decided to spend their hard-earned spring break helping needy children in Honduras. "We quickly realized that this wasn't a charity mission," recalls Julia Schleck '99. It was a life-changing experience for us as well as a commitment to the people and place."

A Different Kind of Love Story

"My first trip abroad--for Drew's London Semester--happened on the dime of a woman who had never met me," explains Katy McMillan '13. The love actually started decades before, with the woman's mother who was eager to take part in Drew's Washington Semester, but didn't have the money to cover the expenses. Enter Julius Mastro.

We wore hard hats and boots the first time we entered the DoYo, trying to avoid stepping on nails or slipping in mud as we explored this skeletal work-in-progress. For years, we had dreamed about a bigger, better place for the Theatre and Dance department, one with adequate space, and upgraded equipment; where rehearsals could be held without the sound of tables and chairs scraping overhead in the Commons. Then word came through that Dorothy Young was giving the university the funding for an arts center.
