Dr. David H. Porter is Harry C. Payne Visiting Professor of Liberal Arts at Williams College. He is a noted scholar in classics, music, modern literature, and education. Currently he is writing a book on Willa Cather. Porter has taught at Carleton College and Princeton University. From 1986-87, he was president of Carleton, prior to serving as president of Skidmore College for twelve years, from 1987-1999.

A former student of Edward Steuermann and Gustav Leonhardt, Porter has given recitals and lecture-recitals on the piano and harpsichord throughout the United States, in Great Britain, and on radio and television.
