The Department of Physical Education
Drew University

The Drew University Department of Physical Education subscribes to the philosophy of education rooted in the Greek ideal of a "Sound Mind in a Sound Body" and promotes the balance between mind and body. Not only does physical activity enhance intellectual achievement, but the department maintains that physical education classes provide important opportunities for learning and the total development of self.

Objectives: to promote knowledge of and respect for our bodies through theory and practice courses in physiological and physical functioning; to give recognition to the fact that our bodies are our best resource for a lifetime of mental, physical, and spiritual well-being; to provide the opportunity to learn skills in life-time sports and develop these to meet each individual's potential; to offer students the opportunity for the emotional release, relaxation, and enjoyment accrued through participation in physical activity.
