Sample Course Structure: LOGON 260

All course materials on the World Wide Web are accessible to students registered for the course through the Drew Blackboard System. Each student is assigned a user name and personal password which must be used to enter the course. The course homepage offers access to:

Tutorial weeks :The course is divided into twelve tutorial weeks.

Two to four tutorial units are assigned each week (see the course outline below for details), and students may study them any time during the week at their own convenience. (This freedom is one of the advantages of taking a course on-line, but it also means that students must take care to complete their assignments by the end of each tutorial week and not fall behind.)

Each unit offers an introduction by the instructor; most units include a reading assignment and an interactive self-quiz on the introduction and assigned readings; some units include an essay assignment as well.

Essay assignments: Tutorial weeks which include an essay assignment also provide a hyperlink for sending the essay to the instructor by email. The assignments should be completed and mailed promptly, in any case before the Tuesday of the following week.

Examinations: There will be three timed examinations. Each examination may be taken once only, although it will be available on-line for a period of a week and the student may elect to take the examination any time in that period.

Chat sessions: A live on-line chat session will be conducted every Thursday (except the week of fall reading week and Thanksgiving). Every student is required to log on to either the 6:30 pm or 8:30 pm session and participate in these discussions each time they are held.
